Yamanaka Impressively Takes Out Nieves

Shinsuke Yamanaka, 19-0-2-(14), looked impressive in retaining his WBC bantamweight title when he finished off Puerto Rican challenger Jose Nieves, 22-3-2-(11), with a single southpaw left hand, flush on the chin, after just 2:40 of the first round in Tokyo, Japan on Monday.

The Japanese born champion was expected to win the battle of the southpaws but no one expected finish Nieves off so quickly. Nieves was never allowed to settle into the fight as Yamanaka fought aggressively from the opening bell.

In the co main event Akira Yaegashi retained his WBC flyweight title with a clear and unanimous 12 round points win over Oscar Blanquet. The scores were 116-110 twice and 115-111.
