Jhonny Gonzalez, 52-7-(45), retained his WBC featherweight title by virtue of a unanimous 12 round points win over Elio Rojas (23-2, 14 KOs) at the Grand Oasis Cancun Arena in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico on Saturday.
Gonzalez, who was defending his title for the fourth time, claimed the centre of the ring for most of the fight while Rojas seemed content to box on the out.. Gonzalez was a clear winner on all three judges scorecards 116-111, 116-112, 117-111. Rojas was down in round 10.
In the co main event IBF super-featherweight champion Juan Carlos Salgado, 25-1-1-(16), retained his title with a 12 round majority decision win over Martin Honorio, 32-7-1-(16). Salgado floored Honorio in round two with a jab and again in round three, despite the positive start Salgado was cut over the left eye by a headbutt a couple of rounds later and allowed Honorio fight his way back into the fight. At the end of 12 entertaining rounds two judges scored the bout for Salgado, 114-112 and 114-112, while the third official saw the fight even at 113-113 apiece
