Nicola Smith secures her place in Rio 2016

By Raphael Baker: Olympic gold medalist Nicola smith is the first boxer from Team GB to confirm her place at the Rio Olympics this summer. Nicola Smith went up against Norway’s Marielle Hansen in Turkey in the 48-51kg flyweight division where she easily defeated her opposition.

Another boxer who is looking to make an impact in Rio 2016 is Galal Yafai, the younger brother of khalid and Gamal Yafi. Galal Yafai went up against Samuel Carmona Heredia of Spain in the men’s light fly 46-49kg division. Like Nicola Smith Yafi also booked his place at the Rio Olympics, by defeating the Spaniard in his qualifying match.

It looks like Team GB are looking very strong for Rio 2016 and with their old stablemate Anthony Joshua becoming the IBF champion last weekend. This will surely motivate them when they fly the flag for Great Britain in Rio this summer.
