Boris Georgiev from Bulgaria looked very impressive in out-pointing American Rock Allen in the last 16 of the light-welterweight division. The Bulgarian's elusive fancy footwork and quick hand speed proved too much for the 22 year-old from Philadelphia. Georgiev prevailed by 30 points to 10.
Classy Cuban Yudel Johnson Cedano, who benefited from a bye in the opening round, show far too much class for Zambian trier David Mwale. The Cuban outclassed Mwale by third round stoppage when the score reached 24-4.
Dilshod Mahmudov from Uzbekistan looked impressive in at times against Brazilian Allesandro Matos. Though Mahmudov won clearly by 26-16, his defence was at times easy to penetrate.
One of the most interesting bouts of the day saw world champion Frenchman Willy Blain prevail over Russian Alex Malatin by 28-20. if these two had been separated by the draw this bout could quite easily have been the final.
In a classic boxer vs puncher battle it was the boxer Blain that came from behind to qualify for the last eight.
