Light wlterweight welterweight and heavyweight results day 9

Light-welterweight Yudel Johnson from Cuba moved into the semi final of the Athens Olympics with a tight 32-28 points win over Uzbekistan's Dilshod Mahmudov, Johnson, who proved a little too strong and even forced a standing eight count in the fourth and final round on his way to victory.

In the next quarterfinal Bulgarian Boris Georgiev progressed to the semi final with a tight 20-18 points over Kazakhstan's Nurzah Karimzhanov

French world champion Willy Blain started a firm favourite against Thailand's Manus Boonjumnong but surprisingly it was Boonjumnong that ran out the clear winner by 20-8. Boonjumnong's quick start surprised the Frenchman as he romped to an early lead and managed hang on to the final bell.

In the final quarterfinal bout Romanian Ionut Gheorghe booked his place in the semi finals with a clear points 29-18 points win over Italian Michele Di Rocco.

In the first of the welterweight quarterfinals Kim Jung-Joo from Korea scored a tight 25-23 points win over Colombian Juan Novoa.

In one of the most incredible stories of the 2004 Games Cuba's Lorenzo Aragon booked his place in the semi finals after an eight year absence with a close but deserved 16-14 points win over Ruslan Khairov.

The favourite for the Gold medal Russian Oleg Saitov moved into the semi final with a 22-14 win over Azerbaijan's Sherzod Husanov. Saitov kept his dream alive of winning his third Olympic Gold medal.

In the final Quarterfinal at welterweight Bakhtiyar Artayev was just too fast and accurate for Ukrainian Viktor Polaykov, stopping the 22 year-old in the third session on the mercy 20 point rule
