Losing to Antonio Margarito via 11th round tko on July 26 does not make Miguel a bad fighter overnight. Prior to the Margarito loss the Puerto Rican hero was unbeaten in 31 starts and held wins over Shane Mosley, Zab Judah and Paulie Malignaggi to name but a few. Granted, he faded against Mosley late on and maybe gets hit more than is ideal for a top 10 fighter but ironically enough he boxed as well as ever against Margarito until he succumbed to the relentless pressure. Since then Margarito has been suspended for the infamous hand wrap scandal prior to the Shane Mosley fight so his win over Cotto is at the very least a tenuous one. Again, a loss does not make you bad fighter and being defeated by p4p No.1 Manny Pacquiao in a tough fight is not a good enough reason to exclude him from the top 10 list.
