Algieri Crowned WBO Champ/Andrade Beats Up Rose

Despite Ruslan Provodnikov (23-3, 16 KOs) dropping Chris Algieri twice in the opening round, the Siberian born fighter still lost his WBO light welterweight title via 12 round split decision at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday night.

Algieri, (20-0, 8 KOs),recovered to box his way back into the fight against the stronger, more powerful champion despite a swollen right eye that certainly will have impaired his vision. . The decision at the end of 12 round for the judges was who did they think Algieri’s larger accumulation of lighter punches outweigh Provodnikov’s harder punches? Two judges went for the lighter punching challenger by scores of 114-112 (twice) while the third went for Algieri by a clearer 117-109.
