Barthelemy Defeats Mendez For The Second Time

Rances “Kid Blast” Barthelemy, 20-0-(12), decisoned IBF super featherweight champ Argenis Mendez , 20-3-1-(11), for the second time on Thursday night at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida.


The first time the two fighters met in the ring back in January Barthelemy was credited with a second round tko but the decision was overturned and ruled a no contest after an inquiry. This time there was no such controversy.


On this occasion Barthelemy took the fight to Mendez from the opening bell and retained the momentum throughout to claim a 12 round unanimous. The scores were 115-111 on all three judges cards despite Barthelemy being deducted a points for a low blow in round nine and again in the 10th.


In the main feature to the main event Umberto Savigne,13-1-(10), scored a second round tko win over former IBF super middleweight champ Jeff Lacy, 26-5-(18), in a bout for the WBC FECARBOX light heavyweight title. Savigne deckedLacy in round one before the fight was stopped after 2:04.


In a welterweight bout 18-year-old prospect Erickson Lubin went 6-0-(5) for the first time by out-pointing Noe “Platanito” Bolanos, 25-10-1-(16). The scores were 80-72 on all three cards.


At Light heavyweight Yunier Dorticos scored a clear and unanimous 10 round decision over a faded Edison Miranda. The scores were 99-91 and 100-90, twice.
