Paul Butler out-pointed fellow Briton Stuey Hall to win the IBF bantamweight title at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle,England on Saturday.
Butler won a thrilling battle via 12 round split decision by score of 115-113 and 117-111. The third judge gave the fight to Hall. 115-113. Butler’s boxing skills proved the key to victory against stronger champion, who rallied late in the fight as Butler began to tire.
Butler, the former British and Commonwealth super-flyweight champ, was fighting at bantamweight for only the second time and improves to 16-0.
Hall won the IBF crown last December and defended the title just once.
