Casimero Retains IBF Crown


John Riel Casimero retained his IBF light flyweight title with a hard fought 12 round points win over Pedro Guevara at the Mazatlan Convention Center in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico on Saturday night.

 

Guevara survived a first round knockdown but used all his boxing skillsto fight his way back into the fight and nick a hard fought 12 round split decision by scores of 116-111 and 114-113. The third official made Guevara the victor by a score of 114-113.

 

Casimero improves to 17-2-(10), Guevara falls to , 18-1-1-(13).

 

On the undercard Mexican Arturo Santos, 12-2-(4), a controversial 12 round unanimous decision over Khabir Suleymanov, 13-3,-(6), for the vacant WBF super bantamweight title.

 

Suleymanov made an impressive start to forge an early lead despite the disadvantage of a cut around his left eye. Santos fought his way back into the fight late as the two went at it in what was an excellent battle. Suleymanov was deducted two points, in the sixth and the 10th. The scores were 116-110, all for Santos
