Churcher vs Brophy
|

By Ciaran Gibbons at ringside: In an all Welsh clash Newport’s Lee Churcher won the British masters middleweight title at the Newport Centre in Wales on Saturday night.
Opponent Chris Brophy from Swansea was pulled out of the fight by his corner after round nine.
The official decision was that the referee had stopped the fight but after round nine Brophy must have known he was up against it and did not object to the stoppage by his corner. Brophy promptly announced his retirement from boxing after the fight.
The fight started slowly but with Churcher in clear control and landing the better shots.
Brophy was feeling the pace in round five when his gum shield came out, not for the first time in the fight. Brophy was deducted a point by the referee.
In rounds six, seven and eight Churcher was winning but the referee told both boxers to step up the action but Churcher appeared weary of getting caught by Brophy’s many swinging punches.
The show was promoted by ex pro Steve Sims .
Other results Lance Sheeham V Danny Harris Sheeham won 40-36.
Dale Evans V Matt Seawright Evans won,1st round KO
Joe Jones V Anthony Trow Anthony won 40-36
Tony Pace V Carl Allen Pace won 40-35
