Antonio DeMarco scored an impressive 2nd round stoppage over Jesus “Pantera” Gurrola at the Tecate Tour Arena in Tijuana, Mexico on Saturday night.
DeMarco whose record improves to 30-3-1, 23 KOs landed with some crisp, powerful right hands in the first, prompting a count against Gurrola when the ropes appeared to keep the Mexicali native up. Then in the 2nd DeMarco hurt and eventually floored Gurrola prompting referee Juan Jose Ramirez to halt proceedings at 2:58. Gurrola drops to 20-6-3, 9 KOs.
On the undercard there was an exciting 10 round welterweight contest between bitter rivals Humberto “Betillo” Gutierrez and Abner “Jaeger” Lopez. There was no love lost in this enthralling back and forth with both fighters have success in the fight, however it was Lopez who emerged victorious having deemed to have done enough by 2 of the 3 judges who scored the fight 96-93, 97-93 for Lopez, and a 95-94 for Gutierrez.
At lightweight unbeaten prospect Eduardo Galindo 7-0, 6 KOs beat Jose Maria “El Pira” Valdez 3-9-2, 1 KO by 5th round stoppage.
At Welterweight Rodrigo Garcia remained unbeaten (15-0, 9 KOs) with a 4th round stoppage of Claudinei Lacerda (16-9, 12 KOs).
Carlos “Chema” Ocampo moved to 10-0 at Jr Welterweight as he punished Enrique Soto 2-6-3, 1 KO for 3 rounds until the referee stepped in and stopped the contest.
Leonardo Baez stopped Bernardino Guevara in the 4th and final round of a bantamweight contest.
