DeGale Retains WBC Silver Crown

James DeGale retained his WBC silver super middleweight title when challenger Stjepan Bozic was pulled out by his cornerman at the end of the fourth round at Glow in Kent, England on Saturday night.

Degale made a fast start, raining in sharp jabs and right hand body shots as Bozic struggled to cope with the British boxer’s southpaw style. Degale confused the Croat boxer even more by switching stances and again hurt Bozic to the body to clearly win the round.

Round two again saw DeGale get to work by targeting the body before jabbing on the move to tot up the points. Bozic again failed to close the gap as a confident DeGale controlled the pace of the fight. Bozic did have some success, though, when he pinned DeGale on the ropes and teed off but the Briton looked in control.

DeGale again went to work in the third round and looked to be working well until an accidental low blow by DeGale gave Bozic a brief respite. When the action resumed DeGale marched in again, targeting the body in a bid to force a stoppage. Bozic, though, kept marching forward. DeGale again dominated the round but Bozic stood his ground.

Boxic came forward in the fourth to force the fight but DeGale was once again just too quick and sharp for the Croat boxer. DeGale delivered yet another low, forcing yet another time out and was lucky not to have a point taken off by referee Ian John Lewis.. Again DeGale dominated the round by virtue of his higher workrate and accuracy. Before the fifth round could commence Bozic’ corner pilled their man out.
