Former world title challenger Michael “Hammer Fist” Farenas, 38-4-4-(30), scored an eight round stoppage win over the previously undefeated Mark “Too Sharp” Davis, 18-1-(5),in an IBF eliminator at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut on Wednesday.
Davis sustained a cut over the right eye in round one and was on the wrong end of some heavy punches in the second session.
Farenas continued the pressure in rounds five and six before referee Steve Smoger stepped in after 0.52 of the eighth round when Davis was again wobbled and failed to return any significant punches. Farenas is now rated No.2 in the IBF ratings.
In the co feature former IBF featherweight titlist Billy “The Kid” Dib, 37-3-(21), made a successful leap up to super featherweight by outscoring former world title challenger Alberto “Kichis” Garza (26-8-1, 21 KOs) over 10 good rounds of boxing. Dib was victorious by scores of 98-91, 96-93 and 96-93 win. Garza had a point deducted for holding in round six.
