Glenn Foot form Sunderland claimed the first Prizefighter welterweight trophy by defeating Dales Evans in the final of welterweights III tournament at Wolverhampton Civic Hall in England on Saturday night.
After keenly contested three rounds of boxing Foot claimed the £32,000 first prize after a hard fought three rounds by splits scores of 29-28 twice on two judges cards while the third official made Evans the winner by the same score.
The semi-final against Rotherham’s Gaynor was a also a hard fought bout that saw Foot’s higher work-rate get him the nod. Foots first bout saw him take out Steven Pearce after 1.42 of the second round.
Evans’s route to the final saw him out point pre-tournament favourite Mark Thompson 29-28 on all the scorecards in the semi-final. Thompson appeared to have injured his right hand during the bout.
In his opening bout Evans out-pointed teenager Sam Eggington after three rounds of an entertaining bout. Eggington shipped some heavy shots but managed to cause the more experienced Evans a lot of trouble before bravely going down on points..
