Javier “El Abejon” Fortuna, 22-0-(16), may have lost his WBA interim featherweight title on the scales at Thursday’s weigh in but he took just 0.68 of the opening round to crush Miguel “Mikol” Zamudio, 25-2-1-(13), at the Tropicana Casino & Resort in Atlantic City on Friday night.
Fortuna viciously floored Zamudio twice before the fight was stopped. Worryingly, Zamudio was on the canvas for several minutes before being stretchered out of the ring. A left hook did the ultimate damage.
On the undercard light middleweight John “Dah Rock” Jackson, 16-1-(14), scored a clear eight round unanimous decision win over the previously unbeaten Cerresso Fort, 16-1-1-(11). Jackson, the son of former world middleweight champion Julian Jackson, won by scores of 79-73 twice and 77-75.
In a clash of unbeaten welterweights, Emmanuel Lartei Lartey, 15-0-1-(7), won a six round unanimous decision over Jonathan Batista, 13-1-(6), by scores of 59-55 twice and a shutout 60-54.
