Cuban light heavyweight Yunieski Gonzalez pulled off a dramatic eighth round knockout win against Rowland Bryant to remain unbeaten at The Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on Friday.
Gonzalez, 11-0-(7), landed a cracking overhand right to dump Bryant on the canvas in a real battle that saw both men have their successes at different stages of the fight.
Gonzalez made his mark as early as the second round when a left hook opened a cut up over Bryant’s right eye. Bryant returned the compliment a round later when a straight right hand was responsible for opening up a deep cut around Gonzalez’s left eye.
The fight gained even more momentum in the seventh round when Bryant landed some heavy and hurtful left hooks. Gonzalez, however, walked through the shots and even managed to counter with some heavy punches of his own.
If the seventh round had the crowd on their feet the eighth session proved just as exciting when Gonzalez came out early and delivered a series of left hooks followed a by massive right hand that dropped Bryant like a stone for the full count. Referee Sam Burgos did not even bother to take up a count, instead he summoned the ringside physician to attend to Bryant.
The time of the stoppage was 1,19 of the eighth round.
