World rated Super Middleweight ’Saint’ George Groves proved that he may only be a few fights away from a world title opportunity after easily beating Uruguay’s Noe Gonazalez Alcoba.
Londoner Groves showcased a stinging jab and had success with the overhand right in the early rounds. Alcoba managed to land some useful body shots but was repeatedly beat to the punch by his opponent.
In round 5 Groves timed Alcoba coming in and landed a picture perfect right hand that heavily dropped the Uruguayan puncher. Although Noe Gonzalez got up to beat the count referee Terry O’Connor stopped the contest deeming Alcoba unfit to continue.
Groves, now 19-0, 15 KO’s, has positioned himself into a potential world title crack at WBO champion Robert Stieglitz and will be an interested ringside spectator tonight for the show’s main event, Carl Froch v Mikkel Kessler.
