Undefeated WBC super bantamweight Silver champion Andrés “Jaguar” Gutiérrez pounded out a 12 round points win over teak tough Filipino challenger Rey Perez in Queretaro, Mexico, on Saturday.
Round after round the Silver champion tried to knock out his opponent with powerful combinations and wicked uppercuts. But the tough and resistant Perez, stood up to everything dished out to him, simply refused to visit the canvas.
Andres considerably upped his work rate, and poured on intense pressure from the ninth round right up to the final bell.
Gutierrez had Perez hurt and desperately defending in the 11th round, and with a grandstand finish in the 12th, always seeking a knockout. But Rey Perez was just about as tough as they come, also incorporating some savvy survival skills.
The three scores of 120-108 all for Gutierrez, reflected his superior workload and greater firepower.
Jaguar remains unbeaten in 28 fights and successfully defended his Silver title for the first time.
