Haumono Claims Vacant Australian Title

Solomon Haumono, 19-1-2-(17), scored 10th round tko win over Franklin Egobi, 16-5-(11), in a cracking heavyweight battle for the vacant Australian heavyweight crown at the Melbourne Pavillion, Flemington, Victoria, Australia on Friday.

Egobi took early control of the fight by pushing out the jab to find his range and whipping in some solid combinations to head and body. Round two saw Haumono settle down more and rain in some heavy head shots to buckle Egobi. Haumono kept up the pressure in the second round to wobble Egobi again. Egobi was again on the receiving end of a barrage of heavy punches in the sixth round before Haumono floored Egobi in round 10 and the bout was stopped after 2:05.

On the undercard Australian cruiserweight champion Daniel Ammann, 25-5-(16),made a successful defence of his title with a ninth round stoppage over South African born Pieter Cronjie, 14-6-1-(10).
