By Andy Rivera: Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm (32-2-3, 9 KOs) dominated challenger Diana Prazak (11-2, 7 KOs) capturing a unanimous 10 round decision by scores of 100-90 on all three judges’ cards late Friday night at Route 66 Casino Hotel, west of Albuquerque, New Mexico USA

Holm used her stuff right hand jab to keep the game Prazek from coming forward to get in close to cause any damage.

After the fight Holm saw a video on the big screen from Welterweight Champion Cecilia Braekhus issuing a challenge July 13th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Holm said she would take a vacation before thinking forward to a showdown with Braekhus.

Holm who was originally Myriam Lamare, but Lamare suffered an injury and had to pull out of their 2009 rematch which Holm won by unanimous decision, in stepped in Prakak the WIBA Lightweight Champion.

The fight was pretty much the same script throughout with Holm using her substantial reach to pepper the smaller Prazak with right hand jabs and quick left to the head of Prazak. Prazak to her credit kept pressure and was able to land a few hard left hooks to Holm’s head but Holm would reset and get back to her game plan.

After the fight, both Holm and Prazak praised each other for being warriors and being tough opponents for each.

“My main concern was Diana tonight not a challenge from Braekhus, that’s something I can think about after the holidays, I had to deal with this tough champion in front of me and that was my main concern.” Said Holm.

“I always want to fight the best. “stated Prazak. “It was an honor to fight Holly, when I got the chance I jump at the opportunity but I’m still the lightweight champion of the world so I’m have no complaints.

Holm now will look to take a break and then her promoter Lenny Fresquez and trainer Mike Winkeljohn will decide if it is monetarily beneficial to fight Braekhus on the challenged date of July 13th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

VALDEZ QUITES HOLLEWOOD WITH 7TH ROUND KO

In the co-main Tony Valdez (7-3-3, 7 KOs) and Raymond “Hollewood” Montes (5-3-1, 3 Kos) battled again to what may fight of the year II in New Mexico. The first time the two battled Montes and Valdez fought to a draw which most felt was fight of the year at that point. This time around Valdez punished Montes until the Montes fell face first after a hard 5 punch combination in round 7.

Montes who was overweight by 6 pounds had to be carried out on a stretcher after lying on the canvas for five minutes with medical staff. No word has been released on his condition at this time.

Undercard

Fresquez promoted Matthew Baca (2-0, 2 KO’s) KO’d his opponent Derek Perez (0-1) of Belen at 0:32 of the second round. Baca dominated the fight with his power and speed which Perez had no match for.

Las Cruces’ Siju Shabazz (1-0, 1 KO) TKO’d Ricky Villafuerte (0-1) of Albuquerque at 2:59 of the second round. Shabazz who is a stable mate of WBA Jr Middleweight champion Austin Trout looked impressive with his win. Trainer Louie Burke feels Shabazz will be on a fast track in the pro ranks due to him having an extensive amateur career.

Mary McGee (20-1, 11 KO’s) TKO’d Albuquerque’s Victoria Cisneros (8-14-2, 3 KO’s) at 0:23 seconds of the 4th round. Mcgeee was too fast for the always coming forward Cisneros but was getting caught repeatedly with left hooks that put Cisneros down in round three and end the fight in round four

Albuquerque’s Jason Sanchez (1-0, 1 KO) who TKO’d Belen’s Gene Perez (1-1) at 2:50 of the first round in an impressive professional debut in the opening bout of the night.
