John Is Finally Defeated

Indonesia’s Chris John (48-1-3, 22 KOs) reigh as WBA featherweight champion is finally over.


John was defeated Friday night by IBO featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka (27-2, 15 KOs) at Metro City in Perth, Western Australia after he failed to come out for round seven.


Vetyeka hurt John in round five and the champion barely survived to the end of the round. Vetyeka then decked John at the end of round six and the bout was stopped before round seven.


On the undercard IBO lightweight champion Daud Cino Yordan (32-3, 23 KOs) retained his crown via 12 round split decision against Sipho Taliwe (21-4-1, 14 KOs). The Scores were 114-113, 117-110 for Yordan, 116-111 for Taliwe, who was deducted a point in round 10.


In a Featherweight bout Rasmanudin won a six round unanimous decision over Roberto Lerio by scores of 59-54, 57-56 and 58-55.
