Chris John retained his WBA featherweight title after out-pointing Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo over 12 hard rounds in Singapore on Friday.
The Indonesian boxer was judged the winner on all three judges cards by scores of 117-111, 119-109, 119-109 though the scores did not reflect the effort of the challenger.
Piriyapinyo floored the champion in the ninth round with a left hand, though John complained he had slipped.
Piriapinyo pressured John in the 12th round but it was not enough to take the title off the champion.
"My opponent was very tough. I tried hard to punch him to the body and the head but he kept moving and persevering," said John.
On the undercard Choi Tseveenpurev, failed to win the IBO featherweight title against current champ Daud Yordan. The scores were 117-111, 119-110 and 118-110 in Yordan’s favour.
