Khan Decisions Diaz Despite Knockdown

Amir Khan survived a fourth round knockdown to outpoint Julio Diaz over 12 tough rounds in a light welterweight battle at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, England on Saturday night.

Khan made his usual fast start, pushing Diaz back and working his way into a clear lead after three rounds but disaster struck in the fourth round when Diaz dumped Khan onto the canvas

Diaz looked the more composed after the knockdown as his confidence grew but Khan settled down by the seventh round as the pace slowed. Khan was wild at times as Diaz picked his punches with more care and accuracy. Khan regained his confidence in the ninth when he landed with a solid flurries of punches to end the ninth session.

It was a tough hard fought battle but Khan managed to dig deep and gain the verdict from the judges by scores of 114-113, 115-113 and 115-112.
