Mayweather cruises past Mosley to win on points

Floyd Mayweather Jr. wins

By Mike Sloan in Las Vegas: Aside from a duration of about a minute and a half in the second round, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. was about as perfect as they come in boxing. He could do no wrong and often times throughout the duration of his 12 round battle with "Sugar" Shane Mosley, Mayweather made it look like teacher versus student. There were even a few moments in the bout where had it gone a little more one-sided in the heat of battle, a stoppage wouldn’t have been out of the realm of possibility.

The often criticized pugilist from Grand Rapids stalked the battered and frustrated Mosley numerous times in the second half of the duel. He ducked under Mosley’s flailing right hands and stuck his Gatlin gun of a jab straight down his opponent’s throat at will. Mayweather’s right hand wasn’t bad, either. It seemed like it was glued to Mosley’s face as it virtually never missed its target when it was launched from its silo.

Mosley sported a wounded face; it was lumpy, red and bruised. Mayweather, on the other hand, looked as if he had gone for a jog and nothing else. Mayweather feinted on top of his feints and jabbed behind his jab. He made Mosley miss eighty percent of his total punches, according to CompuBox and stung Mosley over and over.

It was supposed to be the toughest test of his brilliant career. When it was all said and done, after the numerous fireworks exploded above the MGM Grand Garden Arena, there is suspicion as to whether "Money" Mayweather had the answers to the exam scribbled illegally under his shows. Or inside his gloves. Or tattooed on the left side of Mosley’s face.

And to the critics who squawk that all Floyd does is run around the ring and never engage in warfare, it was he who was the lion chasing the gazelle more often than not.

"I wanted to give the fans what they wanted to see," a relaxed Mayweather said immediately following his drubbing of Mosley. "They wanted a toe-to-toe battle and to see me coming forward more and that is what I wanted to give them. I think we should have pressed the attack earlier and we could have gotten the knockout."
