Paul “El Gallo Negro” Mendez, 10-2-1-(4), scored a controversial seventh round knockout win over Donyil Livingston, 8-2-1-(4) at the Woodland Community Center in Woodland, California on Saturday night.
It appeared as though the knockout punch by Mendez hit Livingston below the belt and Television replays seemed to proves this but after much post fight deliberation the result stood. The bout ended after 2.37 of the seventh round.
Livingston’s promoter Boxing360 plan to lodge a protest with the California State Athletic Comission. “The television replays clearly showed this was a low blow that ended the fight ,” said Boxing360’s Mario Yagobi.
In the co-main event unbeaten featherweight Manuel “Tino” Avila, 10-0-(3), scored an eight round unanimous decision win over veteran Jhon Molina, The scores were 79-73 and all three cards.
