Cristian Mijares won the battle of former world champions at the new Arena Mexico in Mexico City when he scored a ninth round stoppage win over Rafael Marquez.
Mijares (47-6-2, 21 KOs), upset the pro Marquez crowd when Mijares hurt Marquez with a solid left hand before following up and finishing the job. Up until then it was a pretty even contest as the scores of 76-74, 77-74 for Mijares and 76-75 for Marquez.
On the undercard super Edgar Sosa (47-7, 28 KOs) won a 10 round majority decision over Myung Ho Lee (15-3, 5 KOs) by scores of 96-94 twice and 95-95.The bout was made at super flyweight.
