Kevin Mitchell returned after a 10 month lay off to score a near shut out eight round points win over French boxer Sebastien Benito at York Hall in London on Saturday.
Mitchell, who has not fought since losing a WBO lightweight title fight to Ricky Burns, was expected to have an easy night and thats exactly what he got , securing a 80-71 win the referee’s card.
"I loved it in there," Mitchell told Sky Sports. "I was in there relaxing, having fun. Beforehand I was a bit nervous, everyone wanted to see me put on a real performance.
"I put in a performance where I showed what I’ve got, yet I also got eight rounds under my belt. I just want to be active."
Benito was a brave and game opponent but Mitchell was always one step in front. Mitchell will get his wish to stay active as promoter Eddie Hearn plans to get the Londoner working again as soon as possible
"Eight rounds was crucial tonight. He showed just how good he is at times in there," Hearn said.
"The plan as far as I’m concerned now is another 10-rounder at the start of the next season and then into a big domestic fight."
On the undercard John O’Donnell won a four round decision over Jay Morris
