Molina Decisions Spinks Chicago

Carlos Molina earned the right to a crack at the IBF light middleweight title at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago on Friday night when he out-pointed former champion Cory Spinks.


Molina, 21-5-2-(6), who was fighting in front of 6,000 of his home city fans, looked impressive in clearly and unanimously out-pointing Spinks by scores of 119-106 twice and 120-105.


As the scores suggested Molina completely dominated the fight with constant pressure. Spinks was also decked twice, in rounds 10 and 12. Whilew Spinks drops to 39-8-(11), Molinas now goes on to face the winner of the February 23 clash between champion Cornelius Bundrage and challenger Ishe Smith.


On the undercard light middleweight Antwone “The Truth” Smith’s, 23-4-1-(12), clearly out-pointed Mexican Jose Luis “El Temible” Castillo, 64-12-1-(55), over ten rounds by scores of 100-90, 98-92, and 99-91. While Castillo attempted to go forward and pressure Smith, the younger man kept calm and coolly delivered some effective counter punching. From round five onwards Smith controlled the action with his higher work rate.
