WBC Silver super lightweight Champion Roberto ‘Massa’ Ortiz scored a 10th round stoppage win over brave challenger Jorge Romero at the Tabasco Park Stadium in Villahermosa, Mexico on Saturday.
Romero, who was noticeably the bigger man, did reasonably well in the early rounds. But he was being caught by far too many straight right hands and some wicked uppercuts.
Romero launched a big attack in round eight but that was short lived when Ortiz delivered a big right hand punch to Romero’s middle to knocked the wind out of him.
The finish was swift and clinical when Romero, who tried to fight his way off the ropes, walked into a huge straight right, and was catapulted back into them. He received a count, but another big right decked him. Romero somehow hauled himself up, but referee Lupe Garcia saved him from further punishment after 1.36 of the 10th round
