Kompayak Porpramook, 45-3-(30),retained his WBC light-flyweight title by scoring a fifth round tko win over Jonathan Taconing, 13-2-1-(10), on Thursday at the Central Stadium of Buriram Province, Thailand.
Porpramook managed to survive a heavy onslaught in round five but was prevented from capitalizing on his attacks by the referee, who stopped the action and deducted a point from the Filipino southpaw due to an accidental head clash in round four. It was Porpramook who sustained the cut to the side of his left eye.
The bout was called off at the beginning of round six when the ring physician recommended to the referee to stop the fight after Porpramook’s cut worsened.
The fight was sent to the scorecards which saw one judge make the fight even at 47-47, while the other two saw the fight for Porpramook at 48-46 and 50-45.
