Heavyweight hope David Price delighted his home city fans at the Liverpool Olympia on Saturday night when he took just 73-seconds to stop Londoner John McDermott in a British title eliminator.
The Olympic bronze medallist landed three heavy punches in the opening round and three times McDermott hit the canvas.
The referee stopped the fight after the third knockdown leaving Price to take his unbeaten record to 12-0 and a crack at champion Tyson Fury.
Talking to Sky Sports after the fight Price said: "Exactly what I needed but I didn’t expect to take John McDermott out like that. Even I don’t know how hard I’m hitting. That was a peach of an uppercut I hit him with.
"John McDermott is a tough opponent. No one has done that to him, but I knew before the fight he had never been hit like I was going to hit him and it showed then."
Price added: "Tyson Fury is a fighting man. People say he’s going to avoid me. I know Tyson Fury will fight me because he’s a fighting man and otherwise he will look like a bit of a coward. He’s stuck between a rock and a hard place. He’s not ready to move on to world level but can he fight me? We’ll wait and see but I think he will."
