By Ciaran Gibbons at ringside: Promoter Paul Boyce continued his one man crusade to keep professional boxing alive in south west Wales on Saturday when he staged a five fight card in Neath.
Boyce’s sell out show was the first time pro boxing has been staged in the town of Neath since Scott Gammer lost his British heavyweight title to Danny Williams five years ago.
The main even was a six round light heavyweight contest between local Swansea boxer Tobias Webb and Darren McKenna from Surrey.
Webb started well with good boxing skills, moving around the ring and landing hard sharp shots but McKenna quickly forced his way into the fight with crude but effective attacks that seemed to stun Webb.
Towards the end of round four Webb’s power struck as he put his opponent down but McKenna got back up and bravely fought on .
Webb went for the knockout in the last couple of rounds but had to settle for a points win. After the schedule six rounds the referee scored it 59-56 for Webb.
