WBO #2 light welterweight Ruslan Provodnikov knocked out Jose Reynoso in the second round of a scheduled 10 at the Omega Products International in Corona, California on Friday night.
Provodnikov,22-1-(15),meant business from the opening round, looking for the big right hand as Reynoso tried to counter. In the second round, Provodnikov found the target more often before rocking Reynoso with a big right hand. Provodnikov followed it up with another solid right hand, flooring Reynoso. Reynoso tried to beat the count but referee Raul Caiz, Jr. Called the fight off at 1:52.. Reynoso, who lost for the first time in seven fights, falls to 16-4-1-(3).
“This is a payoff for a long three month training camp. I spent the first two months with Manny Pacquiao”, said Provodnikov
“The priority was to work the body and finish on top. The outcome was because of the work with Manny as he moved a lot and it improved my footwork”
In a super-bantamweight bout Christopher Martin,24-2-3-(7), stopped Roberto Castaneda,19-2-1-(14), in the sixth round of a scheduled eight round bout. After a slow opening round Castaneda began to up the pace by attacking the body with left hooks and started to look good Martin floored him with a right uppercut at the end of the fifth round. Castaneda managed to finish the round bravely fought backin the sixth but Martin delivered a left hook to the body, decking Castaneda again, this time face-first to the canvas. Castaneda again managed to get to his feet but referee Jerry Cantu stopped the fight at 2:31.
In the televised opener, Aaron Acevedo & Daniel Martinez fought to a majority draw in a four round Jr. Lightweight bout. Scores were 39-37 for Martinez while that score was over ruled by two scores of 38-38.
Martinez, 130 lbs of San Bernardino, CA is 0-0-1. Acevedo, 129 lbs of Moreno Valley, CA is 1-0-1.
Oscar Godoy scored a four round unanimous decision over Roberto Crespo in a Welterweight bout.
Godoy, 146 ½ lbs of Watsonville, CA won by scores of 40-36, 40-36 and39-37 and is now 7-2. Crespo, 147 ½ lbs of Riverside, CA is now 4-2.
