By Jerry Glick at ringside: Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin, 159.2 pounds, won the WBO Middleweight belt with a scintillating 12 round decision over defending champion Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam. N’Jikam, 27-1 (17 KOs),who was decked six times; twice in the fourth, the sixth, and in the last round.
The judges score it 115-107 across the board for Quillin who remains unbeaten at 28-0 (20 KOs). N’Jikam, 159 pounds, seemed to take the closer rounds, but Quillin dominated the rest. Eddie Claudio refereed.
Devon Alexander “The Great” (24-1 (13 KOs) won twelve round unanimous decision over defending champion Randall “KO King” Bailey (43-8 (37 KOs) to acquire his IBF welterweight title. Bailey 147 Pounds, a big puncher spent the fight looking to end it by a knockout was stymied by the clever tactic of jab and grab employed by Alexander. The judges gave the title to Alexander, 146.8, by scores of 115-111, 116-110 and 117-109. Arthur Mercante refereed.
