Brian Rose retained his British light-middleweight title with a unanimous points decision over Kris Carslaw at the Bowler’s Arena in Manchester on Saturday night.
The Blackpool based champion was pushed all the way to the end by a determined Carslaw, who following the final bell was judged a 118-112 116-113 and 115-114 points winner on the three officials scorecards.
It was indeed a brave effort by Carslaw, from Paisley, who just could not break down Rose. Carslaw was also cut on his forehead after an accidental clash of heads in the third round. Rose did produce the cleaner more accurate work which in the end proved to be the difference between the two boxers.
Rose’s, whose record improves to 20-1-1 told Sky Sports afterwards: "He is the most awkward fighter I have ever boxed. Every credit to him, he is a tough guy. I found him hard to pin down at first, then when he got the cut I think it knocked him out of his stride a little bit. But I stuck to my guns and come on strong at the later rounds. Because I am always fit."
Carslaw responded by saying : " I gave it my all. I thought I started well, maybe I slacked off in the middle of it, then I picked it back up at the end. But Brian has got a really good jab, an awesome jab and it was hard to get by it. He’s a great fighter”
