Rugby World Cup-winner Sonny Bill Williams won the vacant WBA International heavyweight title at the Brisbane Entertainment Center in Boodall, Australia on Friday when he out-pointed South African Frans Botha over 10 rounds.
The former All Black was judged the winner by scores of 97-91 twice and 98-94,
Williams was holding on in the 10th and final round as 44-year-old Botha, dubbed the went after him with heavy blows in a bid to salvage the fight.
Williams, 27, is now unbeaten in six fights and is due to play in Australia’s National Rugby League this year with the Sydney Roosters.
Botha fallf to 48-10-3.
Another Rugby star, Wallabies fly half Quade Cooper won his first professional fight on the same fight card by knocking out fellow Australian Barry Dunnett. Cooper landed a right hook high on Dunnett’s head to send his opponent crashing to the canvas of the cruiserweight bout.
