By Lwazi Ndzobongo at ringside: Macbute Sinyabi retained his SA super bantamweight title when he beat Oscar Chauke via unanimous 12 round points decision in East London on Sunday afternoon.
The judges scored the fight 118-112, 117-112 and 116-114 at Orient Theatre.
It was a tightly fought contest with Chauke giving Sinyabi a full run for his money. The early rounds were very close with Chauke closing the gap on Sinyabi and making an in-fight out of the contest. In round 4, Chauke managed to land a punch that had Sinyabi tumbling through the ropes.
Sinyabi used a jab and move strategy from the 6th round onwards, keeping Chauke at bay and not allowing him to dictate the pace of the fight. It was Sinyabi’s first time going 12 rounds in his 20 fight career and he didnt show any signs of fatigue in the later rounds. Chauke gave a good account of himself and truly tested the champion.
Good win for Sinyabi, he improves to 18-2 and Chauke dropped to 29-7-2.
