World rated super middleweight Adonis “Superman” Stevenson, 20-1-(17), gained sweet revenge over American Darnell Boone, 19-21-3-(8), when he scored a sixth round knockout at the Bell Center in Montreal, Canada, on Friday night.
A straight left hand had Boone knocked out cold after 2:43 of the sixth round. The victory now sets up a WBC light-heavyweight title clash with champion Chad Dawson, scheduled for the Bell Center in Montreal on June 8.
Boone was also decked early in the sixth round before the eventual knockout.
On the same card unbeaten Light heavyweight Eleider Alvarez, 12-0-(8), scored a third round knockout victory over former sparring partner Nicholson Poulard,19-4-1-(9), to retain his NABO title.
Both Alvarez and Poulard started the contest cautiously in the opening round presumably because they knew each other so well from previous sparring sessions. Alvarez upped the pace in round two landing some right hands behind the jab but Poulard kept his composure and picked his shots carefully.
The third round saw Alvarez up his power game even more by pushing Poulard back onto the ropes and unloading with some well timed and accurate combinations. Poulard fell to the canvas briefly but managed to get to his feet, albeit unsteadily, prompting the referee to call off the fight after 2.08 of the round.
