Carlos Takam,30-1-1-(23), took a significant step towards a crack at the world heavyweight title at the Palais des Sport Marcel Cerdan in Paris, France on Friday when he out-pointed experienced American Tony Thompson over 12 rounds.
Takam’s good form comes off a recent draw with unbeaten Cuban Mike Perez. Takam took the fight the fight to the 42 year-old early on and did have much success but Thompson, being the crafty old pro he is, did counter punch his way to some success.
However, the 33 year-old Takam, kept up constant pressure and played to his game plan to secure a 117-111, 117-111, 119-109, to win the WBC Silver heavyweight title.
On the undercard Cruiserweight Engin Karakaplan outpointed former European cruiserweight champ Jean Marc Monrose over 10 rounds to clam the French domestic cruiserweight title.
