Adonis Stevenson promised to make Britain’s Tony Bellew make him pay for disrespecting him during the build up to their WBC light heavyweight title fight at the Colisee de Quebec, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada on Saturday night. The 31 year-old challenger had taunted Stevenson all week during the build up but paid the price at the hands of the big punching Canadian by being pummeled into submission after 1.50 of the sixth round.
Stevenson, 23-1-(20). Stevenson stalked Bellew, 20-2-1-(12),from the opening bell, before finally decking the Liverpool based boxer in the sixth round with a massive left hand. Bellew managed to beat the count but Stevenson pummeled him until the referee stepped in after 1:50. “The dwarf knocked him out,” said Stevenson after the fight.
In the co main event undefeated WBO light heavyweight champ Sergey Kovalev, 23-0-1-(21), again displayed some frightening power by destroying challenger Ismayl Sillakh, 21-2 (17),after 0.52, of the second round in his first title defence. Kovalev spent the opening round stalking his opponent and working out his distance before taking out his opponent. It now looks like there could be a unification fight on the table with WBC champ Andois Stevenson.
On the stacked HBO televised undercard middleweight puncher David Lemieux, 32-2 (30), scored total of seven knock downs before Jose Torres’, 27-7 (24) trainer finally threw in the towel after 1:48 of the seventh round. Lemieux scored knockdowns in the second, fourth sixth and seventh rounds.
