Uchiyama Retains WBA Crown/Igarashi Claims Flyweight Title


WBA super-featherweight champion Takashi Uchiyama, 18-0-1-(14), retained his title via a third round technical draw against Filipino southpaw Michael Farenas,34-3-4-1 NC in Saitama, Japan on Monday.

 

The unbeaten Japanese boxer kept his belt after he sustained a wide and deep cut caused by an accidental head butt after 1:15 of the third round.

 

Also in Saitama Japanese southpaw Toshiyuki Igarashi, 16-1-1-(10), won the WBC flyweight title with a split decision win over Filipino champ Sonny Boy Jaro

The scores were 116-112, 115-113 and 112-116.
