Willie Limond returned to the ring in style on Monday night when he impressively banged out fellow Scot Eddie Doyle in the opening round to claim the vacant Commonwealth light welterweight title at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow, Scotland.
The 33 year-old moved back up to 140lbs and looked strong and in control against his fellow Glasgow based boxer. Once Limond really got going it was not long before Doyle hit the deck twice before the fight was stopped after 1.56.
Limond is now schedule to make the first title defence against fellow Scot Lee McAllister. A venue and date has not yet been decided.
On the undercard heavyweight Gary Cornish out-pointed Tamas Toth over 6 rounds.
Willie Limond’s explosive one round demolition of Eddie Doyle can been seen tonight on Loaded tv via the Sky’s satellite platform on channel 200 and on Free Sat at 10pm
