Light middleweight Omar Chavez overcame the biggest test of his 34 fight career at the Municipal Auditorium in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico on Saturday when he out-pointed former WBA champ Joachim “Ti-Joa” Alcine, 33-6-1-(19) over 10 rounds.
Chavez, 31-2-1-(22), decked Alcine in the 10th on his way to a 98-92, 98-91, 98-89 points win.Chavez is the youngest son of Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez.
On the undercard super bantamweight Raul Hirales scored a crushing eighth round knockout over Francisco “Franky” Leal. Hirales floored Leal in the sixth before flattening him. Leal was worryingly stretchered out of the ring.
