English Light Middleweight champion Nav Mansouri and late replacement Matthew Mallin were both equally dissapointed in how their contest on Friday night ended.
Rotherham based Mansouri was making the first defence of his title when in the first round a clash of heads badly damaged his opponents right eye midday through the opener. Following consultation with the ringside doctor, referee Steve Gray had no other option other than to halt the contest, rendering it a technical draw, much to the disappointment of the crowd at the Ponds Ford Leisure Centre.
A clearly deflated Mansouri said “I knew it was going to be an exciting fight as I know what I can do and I knew what he was capable of. A clash of heads is always something that can happen but we can do it again I’m sure. ”
Promoter Dave Coldwell remained optimistic about the pair meeting again ”It’s one of those things that can happen but it’s only going to delay what will be an exciting fight. ”
On the undercard Chad Gaynor continued his winning streak with an 8 round points victory over hardened Pole Krysztof Szot.
