Lopez Handed One Year Suspension

The Puerto Rican Professional Boxing Commission has suspended the boxing license of former WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez for one year after he criticized a referee following his March 10 defeat to Orlando Salido.

Lopez was also ordered on Tuesday to pay a $10,000 fine and complete one hundred hours of community service.

Lopez, who previously said a suspension would force him into early retirement, has twenty days to appeal.

After the March 10 bout Lopez accused referee Roberto Ramirez of betting on the fight after losing by technical knockout to Salido for the second time.

The former champion asked for forgiveness and said he did not remember what he said or did after the fight until he saw a video of himself after the fight.
