A Day in the Life of Mitchell Baulker

TKO’s Mitchell Balker goes for what he hopes is lucky fight number seven on the Hardknocks Promotion at London’s Troxy, against unbeaten China Clarke.

Last week I caught up with the man from Amsterdam and now residing in East London’s Plaistow, to find out what regime he has to take to remain the number one cruiserweight in Holland.

Daniel Coyne: “What is your walk around weight and typical weight at weigh in?”

Mitchell Balker: “I always keep myself in good shape, I walk around at 14’8 and typical weigh in weight is 14’2 ½”.

DC: “What is your fight record?”

MB: “I am currently 5-0-1 with 2 KO’s.”

DC: “How often do you train and what is a typical day’s training?”

MB: “I train six days per week 5 days twice per day one day once. 0600 run 12km. 15:00 Boxing session with my coach’s Johnny Eames & Barry Smith. 2 days I go to the track and d 6 x 400m sprints with a minute recovery.”

DC: “What is a typical day’s diet?”

MB: “Breakfast would be porridge and raisins with juice. Lunch, wholemeal sandwich with salad and pate. Dinner, rice & chicken, veg, plantain, yam before 19.00.”

This certainly is an “Acid test” for Balker but he knows it could see him gatecrash the British title scene with a possible showdown against either McPhilbin or Macarinelli.

Danny Coyne is a former Sport Science student of London Metropolitan University, and is currently reading Counselling Psychology at The Open University.
