Khan Looks To The Future

Amir Khan is already looking beyond his July 14 clash with Danny Garcia by revealing his plans to move up in weight and challenge for more titles.

The British boxer revealed earlier this week that he will be facing Garcia after original opponent Lamont Peterson was ruled out after failing a drugs test.

Speaking to Sky Sports earlier today Khan said: "My plan is to move up to 147 and face one of the big names up there. You’ve got Victor Ortiz, you’ve got Manny and Mayweather. There are super names there so I’ll be in that mix and we’ll sit down with (trainer) Freddie Roach and see what route we’re going to take with the big names."

Khan, however, did rule out a showdown with stablemate and friend Manny Pacquiao .

"I’ll never fight Manny Pacquiao," Khan insisted. "We get on quite well, me and Manny are good friends. I don’t think Freddie would be happy if we fought each other in the ring."

First, Khan must face Garcia, who beat Mexican Erik Morales in his first world title shot back in March. Garcia is unbeaten in 23 fights, including 14 ko’s,

"Danny Garcia’s a young fighter," said Khan. "He’s only had twenty three fights. He’s unbeaten, he’s strong, he’s got power and he has speed.

"I think it’s a bit early for him to be fighting me but him being a world champion, I think it’ll be a good fight as he’s never tasted defeat before.

"He’s not coming into the fight just to make up the numbers, he’s coming to win the fight."
