Steve Collins Calls for Haye And Chisora To be Banned

By Gerry Hand: Irish boxing legend Steve Collins has called on the British Boxing Board Of Control to ban brawling heavyweights Derek Chisora and David Haye.

And in a further blast Collins labelled the two Londoners, “Second rate boxers”.

Collins, the only Irish fighter to win world titles at two different weights, slammed, “The British authorities should ban them, what they done last night was not what the sport wants or needs, it was a cowardly act, they both knew there would be plenty of people there to separate them.

“It was the classic, hold me back or I’ll kill him but make sure you hold me back, scenario.

“It was a publicity stunt on Haye’s behalf, but he was wrong to stir up at that time because Chisora was just after losing a world title fight and would have been in a bad mood over that anyway, he was always going to be easily provoked.

“I really hope a fight between them never gets made now because they do not deserve a big pay day after dragging boxing down in the manner that they did.

“It wouldn’t be much of a spectacle anyway, they are two second rate fighters who would produce a second rate fight if they ever met.

“Chisora in fairness went in and tried against Vitali, he was out of his depth but at least he tried as hard as he could, Haye just talked a lot and didn’t deliver on the night against the other Klitschko.

“Neither of them are genuine heavyweight title contenders, and they are trying to set up some kind of grudge match between themselves, and after what they did that really shouldn’t happen, I am not sure the boxing public would buy into it anyway they know the pair of them are not all that good.

“It’s a strange one really, I remember Michael Bent and Herbie Hide brawling at a press conference but that was before they fought, and it was interesting Haye didn’t call out Vitali Kiltschko, he called out a beaten man, that’s just not on trying to belittle a man after he has just lost a fight in which he tried his hardest”.
