The British Boxing Board of Control has ordered an immediate rematch between Enzo Maccarinelli and Shane McPhibin.
The board of control ordered the rematch due to the timekeeper ending the first round 47 seconds early, immediately after Maccarinelli was floored, heavily. The Welshman looked on the verge of being knocked out until the bell rang early to end the round.
Maccarinelli recovered from the knockdown and went on to score a unanimous points win over 12 rounds. Purse bids are to be opened on Wednesday, 11th April 2012 at the Board’s Head Office, with the contest to take place by the end of September.
The British Boxing Board of Control also issued the following statement regarding timekeeper Martin Fallon.
Timekeeper Martin Fallon appeared before a Sub-Committee of the Midlands Area Council on Thursday, 29th March 2012 with regard to his performance as the appointed Timekeeper for the Shane McPhilbin v Enzo Maccarinelli, British Cruiserweight Championship on Friday, 23rd March 2012 in Wolverhampton.
The Council found that Mr. Fallon was in breach of the Board’s Regulations and have suspended his licence until the 1st January 2013 and ordered that he undertake further training.
